The target Audience plays a big role as they will tell you what exactly does the Audience want. This will allow us to determaine what exactly leona lewi's audience look for in her music videos. Wether is more narrat8ive or performance they want to see. This will help us when planning our music video. We designed questonaires surveying 40 people and also carried out Vox pop excercise aswell. Two types of research ways gave us range of feedback. The questionare had 12 questions that was based on leona lewis and different music genre's.
We also interviewed 5 people in our vox pop; we choose to 5 people that were differeent age and gender. The feedback we recieved was different as the people we interviewed were from different ages and their opinion differ. This has been a great help in planning our music video as many people suggested that leona lewis should start doing more happy songs and make music videos where she is just performs. The adueince is looking for more narrative aswell as performance.

I also asked the people what are the things they look for in a pop music video. The majority of people said that they like rebelious behaviour and heavy makeup. These are typical pop music video conventions. This mjeans we need to make sure that in oyur music video the main singer is wearing heavy makeup to show her personaility. We will also be showing 'rebellious behaviour' as we planned to film the actress to break glass when the chorus comes on.

We also asked the people what are the songs of leona lewis that they like. We agve them a list of songs; The most popular was 'bleeding love' which was leona lewi's hit songs. The second popular song was 'glassheart'. This suggested that the song is popular and people know about the song. This song doesn't have a music video so it would be easier to make a video gfor the people that like the song. The results gave us confidence in the song we choose to do.
Subculture Theory
There are 3 different types of theories that apply to the music industry. These are as follows :
1. Grant McCracken : He believes that the postmodern world is full of 3 things diversity , creativity and dynamic.
McCracken believes that if we look at the array of values , and ideologies then we cant say all sub cultures come from one culture. He believes that music genres are diverse, creative and dynamic and this appeals to a wider target audience.
2.CCCS : He says that all cultures come from whats in the mainstream and some people rebel to what is in.
For eg: Pop music genre is the most popular however some people rebel and listen various other genres such as dance , rock , R+B and rap etc.
3. Hebdige: Hebdige said that although some people think subcultures only appear to be different but deep down they are the same , he also says that if you look deeper all subcultures come from the mainstream and due to that little cultures are created.
After analysing our music video we decided that the best theory that describes our music videos is the CCCS theory. This is because he believes that all subcultures come from the mainstream and some people rebel to that and listen to other genres that are influenced by the same one. In this case Glassheart' is a song that is more of a pop song but its influenced by the dance as genre aswell.
However , i also think that McCrackens theory applies to our music video as McCracken believes that all cultures are diverse and
You have made a start in evaluating the primary research that you carried out. However, you still need to explain how your research will assist you with planning your own music video.
ReplyDeleteYou have also explained the different subculture theories and have decided to follow McCraken's theory. However, you need to explain how your music video follows the theory, by relating to the style and content of your music video.
