A rough cut is important part of creating a music video as it allows to clearly see what may be missing and what needs to be done again. The rough cut is done following the storyboard and it allows one to see wether the music videos flows well and wether the clips need to be switched around or more clips need to be added.
Once we finished our filming and got all the clips we needed for our music video me and my group members had a meeting where we together watched all the clips that we had. We the created a rough cut by putting all the clips that we will be using together according to the storyboard. We selected the clips that we liked and started putting them in order. We then cut part of the clips that we didn't like. We created the rough cut using final cut pro x. We imported all the clips in the library and dragged the clips in the timeline. We then used the blade tool to cut the clips according to what we liked.
Audience feedback is essential as Audience is the one that brings the revenue in for the products so it is beneficial to know what they think of our production. Audience can give important suggestions regarding the music videos that can be beneficial for our product.
In the description box we wrote couple of lines to the viewers and suggested that they leave their comment below. We received our comments in form of youtube comments from different age range. The majority of feedback we received was from people ages 15 and above. This feedback will allow me and my group members to make the necessary changes in the music video and replace it with what flows well with the concept of our music video. I tells us more abut what our target audience is looking for in our music video.
Below is the rough cut that me and my group members created:
Once we posted our music video on youtube we recieved many views and comments regarding our video. these comments included suggestions from a range of people of the things we can change. One of the users suggested that when the beat is faster the editing should be faster aswell for effect. This means that we should use fast pace editing when the beat in the music goes faster. We considered that suggestion as when watching the music video back we also felt that the editing should be changed as it doesn't flow well.
Another comment suggested that the editing should be slower when the ballad comes and faster when the beat in the music is faster. We changed the editing when the music is slow as the editing was faster and it didn't show consistency. we slowed down the editing which made it look more dramatic and set the mood.
Another comment said that some shots of the artist singing were not filmed well as the lip-syncing of the artist is not good. The artists doesn't seem to know the words of the song. The user also suggested that the clips should be changed around as the narrative wasn't making sense. We considered that as the shots that were used were the ones that me and my group members filmed the first time. The artist didn't know the lyrics of the song that well. We decided to film those shots again and this time making sure that the artist knows the song well. We made the artist rehearse the song before filming so she knows the song well when filming.
These comments were helpful as it helped us to understand what the audience wants. The suggestions that they made were helpful and me and my group members considered them when making our final edit.
This post demonstrates some understanding of why a rough cut of a production is essential and how effective audience feedback is. You have started to consider the effect that this created in understanding your audience, by focusing on the comments that you received and how you are going to make the necessary changes.
