Before starting to design my Digipack I researched into different didgipacks. I analysed the format , images , font , typography , editing and colours. I looked at digipacks from different genre to see what digipacks have and what is the purpose of digipacks. I then researched into digipacks from the pop genre. This helped me to understand the codes and conventions of pop genre and how the digipacks conventional to the pop genre. Whilst doing my research I came across many digipacks that I liked which inspired me to design my digipack.
Katy Perry's album 'Teenage dream' was very conventional digipack as it was consistent as well as clearly followed the conventions of a pop album. It had bright colours and these colours were used throughout that made it consistent. Another album that I came across was Leona Lewis's album called 'Echo' this album seemed very simple however Leona Lewis looked very glamorous at the same time she was wearing simple grey dress.
Pixie Lott's Album was another digipack that I liked as the front cover had 3 of Pixie lotts popular songs and the image in the front made Pixie Lott look very attractive as she has big hair is wearing bright lipstick.
Before creating my design on Adobe photoshop I designed my Digiack on paper using the different ideas I got from my research into different Digipacks. I created different designs on paper, These are as follows:
These are the slides of my Digipack :

This is the front cover of the album.I used Photoshop to create the front cover. I feel it is concventional to the pop genre as it has mixture of colours such as blue, pink and black colours typically seen in a pop album. The name of the artist is on the top in bold so the name stands out and it automaticalls draws attention to it. The name of the album is placed on the right side as I felt if it was placed right underneath the name of the Artist it will distract the viewers. The background of this image is pattentered and is in pink. I used the brush tool to add another colour to it so it looks consistent with artists clothes.
This is the CD design which is the second thing on a digipack. I used an image of someone holding a 'glassheart' filled with glitter in her hand. This image is of the artist holding the glassheart in one of our photoshoots. The coloyurs that I used are consisten to my front cover and music video. The use of 'glassheart' on the CD symbolises the music videos as its on a song called 'glassheart'. It is very conventional as pop music is usually based on love and heart break.

This is the back cover and it has the list of all the songs the album is going to have. This gives the buyers an idea of what the album contains. The buyers would know what type of songs there are. It also has an image of the artist on one side she looks very glamorous and gives the message 'that she is proud'. Which relates to the fact that the music video is about heart break but it gives the message that doesnt affect her.

This is one of the images in the digipack. This image has the artist holding a large heart as she is pressing against her chest. She is also seen with her eyes closed. This protays her emotion and relates back to the fact that the song is called 'glassheart' and the album is about heart break. I used the same colours throughout the digipack. This image is quiet edgy as she is seen wearing black leather Jacket, this shows how she is feeling and relates back to the fact that the album is based on heart break. This image was taken in front of a brick wall. I then used the brush tool and used the same blue colour that I used on the CD to make it consistent.

This is the welcome note in the digipack. For this the welcome note I used the same background that I used in thre front page.I then used shape tool rectangle tool and inserted the text in it. I used the same blue colour that I used before to keep it consistent. The message I wrote addressed the fans , family and the record label and thanking them. It also gives the buyers a background of the album and the content in it. The album is then signed by the artist itself and signed with an 'xoxo' which gives the buyers as if the artist is addressing them.
This post demonstrates some understanding of the choices and decisions that you made to your digipak. You have started to analyse your slides, by commenting on the choices that you made to the colours and the images, but further detail is needed throughout.
ReplyDeleteThis can be achieved, by focusing on the target audience, conventions and pop codes and conventions.
Also how will you share this design with your group and consider a group design?
